Mobile SCTP for IP Mobility Support in All-IP Networks

The Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) is a new transport protocol that is featured multi-streaming and multi-homing. Until now, the two approaches have been considered for IP mobility management: Mobile IP in the network layer and SIP in the application layer scheme. In this paper, we discuss the use of SCTP for IP mobility support in the transport layer. We provide a framework of the use of SCTP with an ADDIP extension, which is called ‘mobile SCTP (mSCTP)’ in this paper, for seamless handover and location management. Some implementation and deployment issues are also discussed in all-IP wireless mobile networks.
